Leaving Las Vegas: Carson City & Tahoe

On the way out of Vegas, saw this vehicle covered completely in bottle caps. The owner also had an extensive collection of plastic alligators piled precariously on the dashboard. (Blue this is for you.)

Passed through a little town called Beatty, between Vegas and Carson City. (Sarah, thought you'd like to know there's a whole town for you.)

Didn't take any pictures in Carson City. Trust me, there's not a lot to see there.
Below, the road to Tahoe. So beautiful.

Also, in true form, had to capture this magical moment. 2 out of the 3 men had fanny packs! That's 66% people! Thank you, Tahoe!

First Stop: Vegas. Wedding Chapels and All.

Where to Start?

I guess the beginning is a good place.
First up: some shots I took on our flight from Columbus to Vegas.

Back in the 937

After almost three weeks of trekking around Nevada and California, I have returned home. The beautiful western landscape urged me to take many photos that I will soon share with you.

A quick overview of where I visited:
1. Vegas
2. Carson City
3. Tahoe
4. Reno
5. San Francisco
6. Monterey
7. San Simeon (Hearst Castle)
8. Los Angeles
9. And back to Vegas

It was quite a trip and I had a wonderful time. But it's good to be back home! I've got lots of things to do!

Here are the good pictures out of the 66 photos I took.

Was it.

Sexting or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Text

I'm going to lay it out for you nice and easy. This short article is about sexting, sending raunchy texts / photos via SMS / MMSto people. Truthfully, my experience with sexting is rather limited. To my knowledge, the raunchiest text I have ever received is "I want you." On the other hand, the raunchiest I've ever sent is, paraphrased, "I want us to do nasty things to each other." Frankly, these texts are rather tame & leave much to the imagination of the recipient. Is this even sexting? I'll leave that for you to decide.

That should probably be the end of this article on sexting, but there is one more thing I'd like to touch on. Recently, for example here, minors have been prosecuted under child pornography laws for sexting. Draw your own conclusions.

Lemon Balm Lemonade

If I were forced to choose one beverage to drink for the rest of my life, I would-- without a doubt-- choose lemonade. I have always preferred the smooth and citrusy refreshment to coarsely carbonated "soft" drinks. Lemonade can be easily gulped down and is always refreshing; plus it never induces the uncomfortable gassiness that coke does. Lemonade also quenches my thirst, while carbonated drinks fail. So in my desire to make use of the lemon balm I grew, I found a recipe for lemon balm lemonade. It is quite simple and incredibly delicious. The final product is super sugary, tart, and lemony-- the closest decent lemonade one can make without using an actual lemon.

What you need:

1 cup sugar
1 cup lemon juice
7 cups water (boiling)
about 3/4 cup fresh lemon balm (chopped)

Bring the water to a boil. Add sugar, lemon juice, and lemon balm. Let sit on heat for a little bit. Let cool and refrigerate for a couple hours. Once chilled, drain lemon balm. Serve over ice.

Got the recipe here. Enjoy!

Dayton Photo Shoot

For the past couple of weeks I have been biding my time in Dayton before I head on a two week excursion out west. Of course, while home, I have been scouring the local newspapers for unique things to do. In my searches, I came across this. While I am still certainly a neophyte, I like to dabble in photography--as evidenced by this blog. Anyway, whether I actually enter this contest or not is still to be decided. (I certainly don't expect to win.) Nevertheless, the contest made me want to get to know my hometown better. So today, Leonardo and I hit up the 2nd street market and then headed over to Woodland Cemetery. The market yielded no good photog opportunities, but Woodland cemetery has a wonderful view of the city. More Dayton photos to come.

Gardening Update

If there's anything I've learned this summer, it's that cucumbers are extremely EASY to grow. I initially planted a garden because I was bored and thought it would be cool if, for some reason, the seeds I planted would someday magically resemble the photos on the flimsy packets I bought at Home Depot. I didn't actually believe that anything would happen. But, in a delightful surprise, my garden grew and produced an abundant amount of cucumbers and green beans. At this very moment, cucumbers are popping up faster than my family can eat them. We have been enjoying green beans all summer and lemon balm, the herb I grew, smells amazing. To me it's a combination of fruit loops and lemon juice. It was the perfect way to spruce up the iced tea I made last week. Overall, I am not only extremely pleased with my garden, but also shocked. Who knew that I- a person with zero gardening experience-could grow both edible and delicious veggies? Cheers.

"The Kids Are All Right"

Last night I saw Lisa Cholodenko's film "The Kids Are All Right." I very much enjoyed this film and highly recommend it for anyone who has not yet seen it. In a nutshell, it's a feel good movie and as the ads state, it paints the portrait of a modern-day family.

A minor editing detail I noticed occurred when the family has dinner at Paul's house. Paul has poured himself a glass a wine, yet when the next scene shows him sitting down there is no wine in his glass. Throughout the scene when it cuts back to Paul, the wine glass in front of him switches between full and empty. Just a small thing I noticed.

Sorry to nitpick, but I tend to notice such things when I'm really into the story and inhaling every detail. This movie is great! Go see it!
